Jumping In

Jump into the middle of the action.
Scenes and chapters should begin after the action has already started.
Jump up to find that high concept idea.
A high concept premise may take a willingness to push the envelope.   Jump all over the research.
Always do more research than you will need.
Jump over your self doubts.
We all have them; we can all ignore them.
Jump into the heads of your characters.
Understand what motivates your characters.
Jump even when you're not sure where you'll land.
Writing is all about taking risks. Success doesn't come by staying safe.
Jump around writer's block.
Plumbers don't get plumbers block, doctors don't get doctor block.
Jump with friends and colleagues.
As a writer you are never alone --reach out to the community of writers.

Today I'm jumping headlong into my revision.   What are you going to jump into today?

  2. I'm jumping into a revision too. Entered a writing competition recently and then discovered a few silly mistakes which meant I didn't make the cut. Your post has inspired me to dust myself off and try again. Thanks for the inspiration:)

  4. But if I jump all my parts jiggle... hmph... I know you're right though--definitely need to keep jumping! (plumbers block is a nice little double entendre there... *snicker*)

  7. Thanks so much everyone for stopping by. For me, what I love is getting motivated and supported when I read a blog so that is my goal when posting. I'm so excited about finding so many more like minded writers. Ok, now 1-2-3- Jump! (Yep! Jiggle...oh, well)

  8. Wonderful post. What am I jumping into? Attending a SCBWI convention on Friday.

I love that you're willing to confess your age. I guess I'm getting pretty close to jumping into 60. I'm your newest follower.
