Upcoming Interviews
Dear Pam,
ReplyDeleteI would be most interested in your reviewing the first or both books in my middle-grade book series, Emerson’s Attic. Not being very savvy with all the ins and outs of sending files via computer I would be happy to mail you the books.
The series was designed to serve as a legacy of words for my granddaughter replacing vampires and violence with a showcase of good character and loving relationships. Although a middle-grade series, many readers feel the books resonate with readers of all ages. The easiest way to describe Emerson, the main character in this series, is as a time-traveling Nancy Drew.
My goal has been to provide young readers with an option to the currently popular books obsessed with vampires, zombies, violence, and subtle vulgarity. Wanting to depict a girl who can think independently and with good character, I instead opted for narratives of family values, suspense, and fostering the ideas of common sense and responsibility in unusual situations. What I did not plan was the unexpected bonus of my books being referred to as “historical fiction” by teachers.
Book One: Emerson’s Attic, The Blue Velvet
Emerson McBride is a normal American teenager. She goes to school, plays soccer, and roams the mall with friends. Her life is just like that of any other 14-year-old's until she is sent to clean the attic as punishment for fighting with her younger brother. Inexplicably, she is thrown back in time to the year 1892 in England. Frightened and armed only with dreams of her beloved grandfather, Emerson ventures into the unknown. Placing the safety of another before her own, Emerson displays courage and decision making abilities beyond her years.
Book Two: Emerson’s Attic, Smoke and Mirrors
In the second book of the series, Emerson’s best friend Sarah gets caught up in the excitement as the two time- travel together to a turn-of-the-century railroad circus. The circus experience is based on researched facts mingled with mystery and adventure. Having a friend along for the ride reduces Emerson’s fears and together they make the best of the situation.
