Heading East For Some Color...

When the air cools, colors deepen. Crimson. Gold. It's Fall and the warmth of this palette brings joy to my soul. Wait. I live in the Northwest...evergreens. You're lucky if you find some vine maple. Let's face it the palette is limited. This year after a lackluster summer here in Washington, I'm heading to where they have real color. I'm going east on a hunt for the "most beautiful fall foliage."

So, I'm zeroing in on New Hampshire and Maine. Any suggestions for places I should check out?

I will be back in time for Marvelous Middle Grade Monday on October 10th.

  2. Sounds like a wonderful time. I've been to both Bald Nob and Mt. Washington in NH. Stunning. Though I have no idea what the color will be like in that area.

  3. The colors hit the best the first and second week in October. Def. a drive through the white mountains and the Kangamangus highway. Just check to make sure roads are still open from Irene! Finding a state park/mountain and hiking is the closest view!

  5. Oh what fun! So happy for you. I've mostly driven through NH on the way to Maine! And I've stayed in Maine many times. If you can, try to drive from Portland to Rangeley. Take the scenic drive on Rt. 17 that leads to Rangeley Lake. You won't regret it!

  7. I grew up in the midwest with all those vibrant fall colors...and the sweet smell of apple orchards in autumn. Although the Rocky Mountains, where I now live, are magnificent, I do miss that colorful palette. Follow your dreams and enjoy your trip.
