First Line: County Road One ran east out of Zion Falls, snaked around the north edge of the ole, abandoned quarry, and then stretched east again in a straight line.
What Others Thought: "Compulsive plot, non-stop action and the battle between modern-day good and ancient evil attract boys and girls alike, and the fast-moving narrative, lots of suspense and cumulating violence will keep them reading." —Kirkus Reviews
What I Thought: This reminded me of those movies when the scene filled with chasing and banging and horrible clanging is about to end another one starts up. I tend to like my books a bit quieter and character driven. This is definitely plot driven and the tension is all about what is going to happen next. Which I have to admit would appeal to many middle grade readers, especially boys. There is rarely a moment to catch your breath before another scary situation begins.
Who: Michael Dahl is the author of over 100 children's books. Some of his most popular series are Finnegan Zwake, Library of Doom, and Dragonblood. He resides in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in a haunted house.
I have never heard of this book- but from what I read here it is sure to be a hit with MG boys (and girls). What a cover! Thanks for sharing.

Nice! Love the cover, love the title...love what you said about the book. Will be adding it to my to reads. Thanks, Pam!
ReplyDeleteAnd a tad green with envy that Michael's house is haunted!
I love the fact that he lives in a haunted house. This book sounds like it's all action and would appeal to fans of Lightning Thief or other action-oriented books. Thanks for the heads-up, Pam.
